The strong connection between internet and television at zdf.kultur was one of the most important aims of the new channel from the beginning. The target-audience must be able to interact with the channel. This goal of achieving a new way to reach the viewer was something we wanted to see reflected in the new design. The promotion design has a look inspired by Flash-websites that play with looped pictures. There is a toolkit which guarantees the highest level of flexibility with the help of programmed combination possibilities, and which allows the look to be thematically altered. Starting with a basic grid that is filled with many short picture loops, variously constructed backgrounds can be added on. These are selected using a random generator. All elements can be altered and can be substituted for one another. The clearly defined structure of the whole ensures familiarity and high recognition value, yet the viewer always sees new elements and unexpected combinations. The design is no statically prescribed corset but rather something that should grow and constantly change.
