Guido Knopps's ZDF documentary series "Weltenbrand" is dedicated to the period between 1914- and 1945. For this three part series, black and white film and archive-material was retrospectively coloured. The Opener refers directly to the title of the programme by utilizing a burning map as the key visual. Pictorial transitions using flowing liquids indicate the transformation from black and white to colour. Our brief here was to bring in the original material into the body of the programme with as much sense of unity and continuity as possible, thus conveying a dynamic sense of involvement in the subject matter. The Opener was produced entirely in 3D.
